Medic83301 (2 years ago) Soul Makossa was a great rockin' R&B tune when it came out in late '72 and was underated . The original radio version had deep funky bass lines , Latin and African rythyms and a hard driving American rock n' roll drum beat . you didn't have to understand the words to get your botty movin to it !

numarkaccord (2 years ago) Ive never seem the performance, but I have heard this beat in mixed in many old breakbeats. Great stuff. Thanks

stormid (2 years ago) Am I dreaming?
Or did I actually see a Xylophone playing, trumpet blowing, dress robe wearing black dude who looks like a proffessor, lounging about in dress robes, in front of a quaint gathering?

soukousman (2 years ago) This was the earliest of Makossa before it became Makossa as today. Makossa was like funk and pop in the 70's.

kemzy44 (2 years ago) proud to be Cameroonian!!

hibiscusfreak (1 year ago) I loved this as a kid too. And then when Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" came out with his "ma-ma-se-ma-ma-sa-ma-makosa," I used to say "Hey, that sounds like an old song I used to hear." Nobody knew what I was talking about!

The internet gives so much.
I have been trying to remember this great beat
I was a young boy of 11 when I first heard this on the radio in the New York Area.

SoulTooSoul (1 year ago) What a delight to see and hear Manu Dibango perform this internatioanal classic. Manu, like Fela mixed jazz with African music. He also mixed reggae with African music. I have had the pleasure to see him perform live. It is wonerful to watch him in a outdoors setting.

lynxserpens (11 months ago)  Rihanna & Michael Jackson r being sued for stealing the song 'Wanna Be Startin' Something'.Manu Dibango's taking the pair to court, claiming they jointly stole part of his 1972'Soul Makossa'.Jackson's already admitted using part of Dibango's track in'Wanna Be Startin' Something' .He reached a settlement with the musician years ago.The new lawsuit alleges Jackson allowed Rihanna to use part of his hit in her single 'Please Don't Stop the Music' without Dibango's permission.
