Video Description:
This video is the first part of a program that aired on television (date unknown; information from a viewer comment). I don't believe that the second part has been posted on YouTube yet.

This video includes includes commentary, photographs, and film clips of historical New Orleans and Mardi. It also includes commentary, photographs. and video of chanting and dancing contemporary Mardi Gras Indians.

I gather from my reading about Mardi Gras Indians that having "Indian blood" is not a requirement for being a part of  or  a  leader of  a Mardi Gras Indian "nation".

Most don't realize the Natives were diverse from red to black and even white w/ blond and blue eyes.

Missy5464 (1 year ago) pam great video! i like it! most just wanna claim black indians as just black indians but this video clearly states they were indians mixed with africans from back in the slave days,but i also know some blacks came on boats themselves before the slave days and mixed with natives. anyhow it's a good video. i enjoyed it. and natives do come in many colors today cuz of so much mixing. but that doesn't make them any less native in my eyes than someone who is full!
