MrDavidHutchison (8 months ago) What a great performance by the King and co.! Excellent

****
ledzeppelinbojo (8 months ago) It takes people of intelligence to enjoy this music. My friends listen to Lil Wayne and Lor Rida while the girls listen to Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers. What happened to JAZZ, ROCK, MOTOWM, AND THE BLUES!!!!????

****

Zumramania (8 months ago) I ask myself same questions, my friend...
****
esb420 (8 months ago) I like King, Waters, and Hooker a lot. I also like Lil Wayne. Am I a mutant?
admnistr00 (8 months ago) no. its not good to be caged in some genre box.

****
Eurasian8 (8 months ago) Haha I love schubert, saint saens, hooker, santana, you're not the only one. Like admnistr00 said, it's not right to like only one type of music. It's good to have some variety! Who wouldn't love Hooker anyway?

****

MyManDan (8 months ago) anyone that disagrees that the blues didnt originate from jazz needs to listen to this
****
linger1978 (7 months ago) blues is older than jazz, so jazz come from blues...
****
Fr3eStyle2 (7 months ago) jazz origins from ragtime dixieland and blues and is the first truly american form of music... music history lolol

****
DrekkreD (7 months ago) Who cares what came from what?

These are simply some of the most soulful takes ever made.

****

UltimoHawk (7 months ago) jazz is a derivation of march music

bluestudio67 (4 months ago)  I just saw him this last friday. Even at 83 he still plays that ol geetar great. Did a lot of talking, same as his other concerts. I think his fingers are really getting tired a lot these days.

****

Echioderm (4 months ago)  84 now
****
piggear (6 months ago)  I can tell you that the first song is "Whole Lotta Loving", the second is "Keys to the Highway"...I have no idea what the third song is though.

****

jahmerican876 (6 months ago) The second song is called the letter not keys to the highway.

****

50sResearchCenter (6 months ago) No, the second song is "All over again", later known as "I've got a mind to give up living" (Live in Kansas City 1972). The mistake came into this world because of wrong credits on some BB King compilations (like the cheap Blues Collection vol 2) where this song was listed as "The Letter". The confusion may have been caused by the second verse: "I read your letter this morning". But the song "The Letter" has lyrics that begin with "I want to write a letter, but I don't know just where to begin".
****
benjammin420420 (5 months ago) is BB the original author?

****

50sResearchCenter (5 months ago) There is some confusion over the credits as well. Although B.B. is often credited as having written this song the original record listed: "Colin Emmanuel / Estelle Swaray / Alan Simpson". Paul Butterfield's version was sometimes credited to jazzer Nat Adderley and Harry's Blues Lyrics (usually a reliable source) lists it as "traditional". So who knows?

****

benjammin420420 (5 months ago) cool thanks. i remember reading it credited to 'traditional' but someone was arguing that Butterfield wrote it....
****
50sResearchCenter (5 months ago)  Butterfield certainly didn't write it. BB released it on single in 1965: ABC-Paramount 10724 = All Over Again b/w The Things You Put Me Through. Butterfield (or Mike Bloomfield) probably heard it when it was a '65 R&B hit and covered it on the East West album. Peter Green might have found it on the lp The Electric B.B.King as the Fleetwood Mac arrangement is quite different from The Butterfield Blues Band's. But Butterfield sat in with the Mac in 1969, so it is possible they learned it from him

****

benjammin420420 (5 months ago)  great thanks. I saw BB in 07 and he still plays that tune
****
spatchycat (7 months ago)  how old was he here????
****
bdebo63 (6 months ago)He was 43 at this time
****
rockerdude29 (6 months ago)  he's looked basically the same for the past 40 years haha.
****
GearsOfhalo4 (6 months ago) i just saw him recently and his skills haven't faded with age

****
bluesboy25000 (6 months ago) Nobody plays or sings the blues like BB King Does. So powerful. Doesn't bother playing 1 million notes when he can speak volumes with just a few choice notes

****
owenkabuvy (6 months ago)  o yea!!! B.B. KING THE KINGS OF BLUES
****
amyznewz (4 months ago)  If you can get your hands on an ACE issued CD called 'Do the Boogie' get it. It's a compilation of 2 of his earliest albums. And, he's playing a Strat - before Lucille.
The range of his voice matches anything Ella Fitzgerald had. Jaw dropping

****
tuxguys (2 months ago) I saw this on PBS, back when it was NET (National Educational Television) one Sunday afternoon on WQED in 1968... I'd been playing guitar for about three years at that point... and suddenly, everything MADE SENSE. I knew what "soul" was; I knew what a tight band (not well-rehearsed; there's a difference) should sound like; I knew what a "singing" tone was.
A year later, I had the same epiphany on this show with Wes Montgomery's playing. Add Berry, Cropper, and Greene, and it's all there.
****
ShiffronLandren (2 months ago) No one will ever sing on the guitar like BB King! The most melodic and sophisticated blues player ever.
****
peptikon (2 months ago)  i love that the hammond plays the bass, and then i still haven't mentioned the tone james toney gets on the B3 and offcourse bb's powerfull voice.

JaketheSnake247 (1 year ago) cheers mate
do you know what album its on (no best of's)

****

selmerd (1 year ago) jake, I'm not sure it was ever on an album that was not a "best of." I could be wrong, but I think the first album it appeared on was "His Best The Electric BB King" 1968 (My first BB King album, which I bought when it was his current release) after being originally released as a single in 1965.

****
OlandBeatz (1 year ago) I can't find 'the letter' to download. is that the real song name?

****
gungoe (1 year ago) its not strange everybody saying he's a great guitar player, he is one of the greatest, but why doesn't anybody say something about his voice? He can sing like the best as well! Not many people can sing what he sings here.
****
kcmt01 (1 year ago) The second song is meant to be humorous. Lucille sounds as good as ever.

[Editor’s note-“Lucille” is the name of B.B. King’s guitar]

****

guest58 (1 year ago) Lucille is the bomb.
