"What The World Needs Now" and "Alfie"

Video Description:
"Dionne Warwick sings and Burt Bacharach plays (also composer) "What the World needs now" and "Alfie" in a clip from the 60s. The quality of the audio is not very good, but even so, I think this clip deserves a chance to be seen and heard.....

mkbell2003 (9 months ago) At the time of this obscure broadcast, the top selling Pop female vocalist was Dionne Warwick. Sadly, her record sales were not properly refectled on the Billboard charts of those times (the 60s) because she was "Negro".
Too often, other white Popfemale artists, namely, Cilla Black and Dusty Springfield would mimic the vocal arrangement as demonstrated by Warwick's original recordings. Both of the white ladies would chart above Warwick's efforts.
Go figure?

dibotis (8 months ago) MKBELL, Black and Springfield charted above Warwick? Only in the United Kingdom! In the USA she was second only to Aretha Franklin as the top charting female of the rock era with 56 Billboard chart hits, 12 of them top 10 as opposed to 4 for Springfield and zero for Black. Warwick had 33 Billboard top 40 hits whereas Springfield only had 10. Black charted one time in the Billboard top 40 and once more in the Billboard top 100. Your statements here are not borne out by the facts.

wuzup36i3 (2 months ago) Dionne Warwick voice was like liquid Gold, in the 60'
It changed, I noticed it since the 80'
I know age affect ones voice, But I think some major change.
Did she have nose surgery ? or an accident to her larynx.
If so it real Mess her voice.
Tks, for posting this Video. First time I seen her in the 60' and that voice was Amazing! then.
Love,
Teri

lordkoos (1 month ago) She smoked cigarrettes most of her life, baked her voice, it's a shame.

mjimme (2 months ago) Where did this come from? Was it a TV special. I noticed she left one verse off of Alfie. That's my favorite song that she sings. She does that way better than even legend, Barbra Streisand. It's Dionne's song and she's told the story many times, that it was recorded by many and she was the only one who had a hit on it. Dionne is a legend. Too bad she smoked, but she is on key now and touring the world. She is just in a much lower key.

LesbianVampireLover (4 weeks ago) Don't forget to give credit to lyricist Hal David, here. David and Bacharach collaborated for years, just a great team. Of course many of these songs were written specifically for the great Ms. Warwick.

8mycrab (2 weeks ago) Nothing like listening to some of your favorite songs played by the composer. And as far as I'm concerned these can only be done by Dionne, even though others have "tried" to do Alfie.
Michael Jackson was asked during an interview what some of his favorite songs were and the first thing he said was, "I like Burt Bacharach."
