****
tonemenolc (5 months ago) I've loved this song for many years. As things turned out it was my brother who picked me up when I was down. Now it means so much more to me.

Poopaloo55 (4 months ago) The Hollies are awesome...especially Allan Clarke. They were just nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame...way overdue. They deserve to be inducted in 2010.
****
wattever333 (4 months ago) This song is so profound, and so straight-forward. I think it's a song about brotherhood in the general sense.
I wasn't sure the written word could ever make me cry, but a few of these comments did.
I wish I didn't feel like such a burden to my brother.
I have to look for brothers elsewhere.
****
tobiaslarsgunnar (4 months ago) takes me back...

herb06118 (4 months ago) My brother was murdered back in 1971 and this was our song. I cried my heart out listening to this song over and over again and wished I could have done something to bring him back. Thank you for this wonderful song . It will always remind me of how much my brother meant to me .
****
keyboardrebel1916 (4 months ago) Wow!!! your comment really touched me, so sad, the loss of probably a young life and the obvious devastation you and your family had to endure, like pete said! your brother is at peace in God's heavenly kingdom. Take it easy my man!, Take Care...Patrick (Ireland)
****

****
U53217 (4 months ago) who would have thought that this song would be a "HIT SONG" for many years to come, an to many, many people.....
****
Bambootay (4 months ago) Everyone who loves this song should take a moment to understand the lyrics. The brother is your fellow man, all the people around you. Wake up and smell the coffee, we need to care for each other more so we can all prosper, not just the ones who have it good. Help out a little more, have some compassion. We all come from the same mother essentially and are therefore brothers and sisters.
****
kitaingirl (4 months ago) I don't have a brother I just love this song.
****
myboylollipop09 (4 months ago) I think the loss of great popular music in America has had a detrimental effect on the character of the people in our country. We don,t care about one another as we should and so many get left behind and fall within the cracks that lead to drugs, crime, and prison. The real shame of it all is that the music industry has done this to themselves by removing the opportunity for everyday people to get a hit on the charts and in doing so speak to a nation that is lost and in need of lots of love..
****
seeburg220 (4 months ago) It's amazing that the Hollies have yet to get into the R & R Hall of Fame. It's a no brainer!
****
Mauiedcouple (4 months ago) He wasn't heavy, he was my brother. He is gone now. We got through a lot of things together in an abusive home. Losing Scott was such a shock to all, but to me, I was alone...no one else knew but him what it was like. It has been 22 years now, & I am still here, trying to carry myself, but I know when I am down & have trouble getting up, he is carrying me. I love you Scott <3 R~I~P
****
j20tower (4 months ago) what a great song. A great group with a great sound.
****
tubeviewerthree (4 months ago) I burst into tears every time I hear this song. This song makes me want to get on my knees and scream at the sky for all the injustice in the world.
****
SuspiriaTits (4 months ago) I never appreciated this song until one day may dad started discussing the lyrics. I listened to them and had to hide my eyes watering. lol
****
sunnypiper (4 months ago) Don't have songs like this anymore..
****
TheProdicalSn (4 months ago) to those who care and love.
thank you
****
roberthenley (4 months ago) Sorry, Hollies died when Graham Nash left imo
****
magmalin (4 months ago) Great song, great group! And I agree that Graham Nash was one of the best. But they are dressed very strangely, can't imagine anymore that pop groups wore such conservative clothes in the 60ies.
****
TomC1011 (4 months ago) Not all of them, but the Hollies didn't need to. All they need was good instruments and the wonderful voice God gave them.
****
faeryquene (4 months ago) That was the style back them-but by around 1967 the mod look started to fade away and the hippie look came in. The interesting thing is The Hollies kept that look through 1969 at least.

MrJamesb462 (3 months ago) For my brother Robby Bowers,You have been gone now 22 years and I miss you as much today as then.I will see you again someday!!Love you Bro!!!!
****
JalanRumpai (3 months ago) I agree that alongside Bridge Over Troubled Water there are few other songs in music history about friendship as powerful as this.
****
Gunfighter1b (3 months ago) The song was inspired by the motto for Boys Town. Father Flanagan saw a drawing of an older boy carrying a younger boy and the caption was "He ain't heavy Mr. He's m' brother."
Elton John plays piano on this song, when he was still Reginald Dwight.
The Hollies never collected royalties the original composers made all the money, the Hollies never asked for them as one of the writers was dying of cancer.
****
mystkpizza (3 months ago) This was the only songwriting collaboration between veteran songwriters Bobby Scott ("A Taste of Honey") and Bobby Russell ("Little Green Apples"). Russell, who wrote the lyrics, was married to Vicki Lawrence and wrote her #1 hit "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia." He died of a heart attack in 1992. Scott was a piano player, singer, and producer. In 1990, he died of cancer.
****
TheAssignor (3 months ago) Watching my gifted son throw his life away. Just diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Gambling, alcohol - can't bear to watch. This song is overwhelming.
****
Ida922 (3 months ago) "THE HOLLIES" it's my favorate group, back to 60's sounds great, but "graham nash" left the group join w/ the other band, they call "CROSBY,STILL,NASH & YOUNG"
****
Poopaloo55 (3 months ago) We missed Graham at first, but Terry Sylvester more than made up for it with his flawless harmony.
****
tawray (3 months ago) Another timeless song ,a great love song ,forever HOLLIES.
****
lavonlol (3 months ago) Why can't there be any groups now-aday's that just stand and deliver the goods. Oh...for yestertear once more...
****
recovering16 (3 months ago) This is a great link about the origins of this well-loved song. I think Bob Russell, the lyricist was an amazing, prolific songwriter; he wrote such varied tunes as: "Don't Get Around Much Anymore", "Do Nothing Til You Hear from Me", and Little Richard's hit, "The Girl Can't Help It." P.S. in this link, they erroneously say that Bobby Russell was the writer but that's incorrect, as one of the comments notes...
****
mystkpizza (3 months ago) Bobby Russell was one of the writers of this song along with Bobby Scott
****
recovering16 (3 months ago) Bob Russell was the lyricist, not Bobby Russell. (Bobby Russell was white, probably born around 1950 or so and was married to Vicki Lawrence; Bob Russell was black, was born around 1920 and collaborated with Duke Ellington and many others. Same name, different song writer... (both very talented)
****
mystkpizza (3 months ago) Recovering16-I was doing some investigating myself and found that there were 2 conflicting articles but bob russell is the correct one who died in 1970 of cancer. In one articles it lists Bobby Russell & Bobby Scott the other one list Bob Russell & Bobby Scott. But you are correct...
****
recovering16 (3 months ago) I appreciate that, Mystk...The reason I wanted that clarified is because Bob Russell has become one of my all-time favorite song writers. He wrote such a variety (as you could see from my original note) - such as this one, older standards, and even rock and roll (The Girl Can't Help It - one of my favorite Little Richard records)... Thanks for taking the time...Judy
****
atchiexiv (3 months ago) great knowledge about this song. you 2, recovering16 and mystkpizza
****
Cadaver44 (3 months ago) written by the very underrated complete musician, Bobby Scott... RIP
****
Y141182 (3 months ago) This is a marvellous song it has all his meaning today in a world of chaos where brothers over the world keeps on fighting with each other....
****
MKHellBilly55 (2 months ago) Yes it is , I relate so deeply to this song, I have 5 brothers, and it never ends. even for the one that I rarely talk to. I love you Bro
****
PinkRinse (2 months ago) I know this is ultra soppy but I really relate to this song too. My brother (the eldest at 43) is mentally handicapped and although he's held back in that respect he's so happy with his life & always makes me feel guilty when I'm in a huff over something silly. He means the absolute world to me!
****
tupelo563 (2 months ago) Hope they get in The R&R Hall of Fame, they're long overdue in my opinion. Hope Bernie Calvert, their long lost bassist,(who's on this vid.) is there too. This would be an appropriate song for them to do there if they make it.
****

****
juniebird72 (2 months ago) This song touches both myself and my daughter because her brother is Autistic and she says this song reminds her of him because he is not a burden but a blessing her life just as he is in mine. And i am blessed to have a daughter such as she with the beautiful heart she has. Her brother has inspired her to become a caregiver to disabled children when she grows up. She will one day care for him when i can no longer do it. Bless her heart! He's not heavy, he's her brother! And she loves him.
****
toolboox (2 months ago) thank you for sharing this part of your life......you have two angels in your family...

****
chuckbuckbobuck (1 month ago) Rarely has a group nailed a song such as this group did with this song. It goes for the gut everytime I hear it. I remember my social studies teacher in junior high school doing a slide school presentation about the impoverished world using this song as the background for the presentation. It was effective!
****
brunhein (1 month ago) Timeless Classic, one of the best ever made!
****
mybigbluetoad (1 month ago) When i was a kid, I remember watching a documentary about the Vietnam War on TV sometime in the late 60s....one segment showed an American soldier carrying off a wounded fellow American G.I. on his back more than twice his size behind enemy lines and running as fast as he can so they could reach the other side...and as i watched in awe, i was so amazed as to how that guy did it....I was so moved by it....and this song was being played on the background... .and I loved the song ever since...
