"I met the sisters some years after this recording, when they visited Amsterdam. It was great fun and I took June and Ruth to a DiscoParty where they screamed when they first heard Ian Dury's-"Hit me with your rythmstick!!!", we cried laughing. Also they were awarded a "Platinum album" for "Energy", and gave a fantastic concert at the Carré theatre in Amsterdam, which later was broadcasted on Dutch national radio.
I'll always cherish those memories of having spent some time with these fantastic women, so full of fun and yet so real, Ruth the typical oldest sister (love her), Anita more reserved and alert, and June(bless her soul) the youngest, a few years older than myself, so open to new things and ready to eat the world.

It's good to see that so many of you outthere do love these sisters and aknowledge how enormously talented they are."

shuggy1110 - I L-o-v-e em!!!! ;-)

****
HAVOK05- MAN AND THAT WAS JUST REHEARSAL??

****
dmif3 - I believe this period was their first incarnation when they were doing standards. Check out their first albu, I blieve it was their first, they wore clothes similar to these. Notice there are four sisters, one would later leave-I believe it was Ruth although I am not sure.

****
universuale - Hi everybody, thanks for your comments, it,s great to know so many people love the sisters like I do.

Bonnie was the one who left first to sing solo.

****
universuale - Thanks everyone for your comments, glad to know there are still real music lovers outthere.

It breaks my heart to read that June died broke, wow that really hurt me badly!

Why don't I like todays female vocalists, because they're all plastic and sing alike, they yodle like swiss alp dwellers, all of them, so boring really!

****
****
divalish- the started our as a throw back to the 40s with a nod to the Andrew Sisters; they were ALL the rage during this period to those music lovers in the know. next up would be LaBelle. this was my fave period from them and I in fact lost interest when they went pop. excellent.

****
leone2tube -fantabulous!!!!

you're right universuale, todays songs are sooo lame. but i must say, the pointer sisters did some boring commercial stuff later on as well. whats up with the handkerchiefs, is that a tribute to the late great Ella F.?

****
universuale - The handkerchiefs are there to wipe of sweat and give a feel of church on a sunday, hahaha, no seriously, it just was part of them on stage I guess, I never asked them.

****
azizip17- @universuale, Maybe there's no connection, but in Africa (and from there, the Caribbean, USA, & South America), & in the Middle East & Europe, many dancers carry handkerchiefs. For example, from Google "The Lundu is a dance-song with its origins in the African Bantu tribe [It] became Brazil's first national dance... Usually Lundu is related to the Spanish fandango and other new-world dances ...they all involve, to some degree, handkerchiefs, castanets, and holding ones' arms above their heads.

[Editor- Here's that Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lundu_(dance)

****
57Will - They wear this old blues standard out something fierce here!

****
Phraxinuc -Wow! Love it! Never heared this one before, but I loooooove it!:-)

marstokyo - These early Pointer Sisters videos are really fabulous! They were so damn good. I loved it when they had that funky '40s look too. Great stuff.

****
Raylene607 - Just an added comment. I saw them on my 16th b'day in '72. June still had braces on her teeth. Best concert ever. Talk about a rockin' 16. Press coverage the next day was the best ever. Locals loved them and they loved us back.

****
deanrdd - When you sing this hard just rehearsing, you love music.

****
philburrell- these girls love to sing, they would go to church on you in a NY minute.. To me, their early stuff was the best stuff. So much versitility. After Bonnie left it was all mediocre from there......The just had raw talent, and it's hard to duplicate sister harmony......God Bless 'em

****
ohd00bley- One the most versatile vocal groups ever! Jazz. blues, country, R&B, country, rock and pop. I love their early stuff.

****
GrossbergerXXX- If you like your music funky n' fresh, then look no further. The Pointers' are in the building!

****
UncleCharlieOakley -Superb. This was the Pointer Sisters at their peak -- before they allowed themselves to get all blanded-out. And look what happened then.

****
ElMosquitoe -OK so its Ruth Anita Bonnie and June on the far left , Right? Still listening to this on a daily basis pure genius !!

****
callhermissross- From left to right Ruth,Bonnie,Anita,& June.

****
ElMosquitoe-Thanks for the reply now I'm going to sound thick but their left to right or ours only I thought Ruth was the tall one ?? Thanks again x

****
dutico- Yes Ruth is the tall one ;)

****
lunox2 - written and produced by the great Allan Toussaint, who also produced Labelle's great hit lady-marmalade

****
jzatkin1- Wow, does this bring back memories! My brother engineered the first two albums, so I got to spend a lot of time with them - rehearsals, sessions, and that first tour. I sure miss'em!!

****
ElMosquitoe- My wife grew up listening to early pointer sisters records and had always told me how good they are or were . Now I'm totally addicted to listening to them , I want to make every one I know sit down and listen and watch these early recordings PURE GENIUS !! Can any one tell me which one is which as they line up above please ? These girls were 2nd to non absolute dream to watch !! Thank you x

****
minnoahbrown -From left to right:

Ruth - Anita - Bonnie - June

Ruth has the low voice

Anita has her hair up with a flower

Bonnie has the long fall wig on

****
pavelponde - Jesus. Gotta love the Pointers. I mean, love the Koko Taylor version but this is something else, superb...

freebird1969 - originally performed by Cold Blood...I know the audio is on a k-tel comp....

****
kdakuginow- freebird 1969? I'm wondering about your comment Cold Blood originally performing this song. I had the understanding this was KoKo Taylor's song and she is the one that made it famous way way back in the day.

****
Mongo76- your thoughts are right. It was written by willie dixon and recorded 1st by howlin wolf 5 yrs prior to koko's version in 1965 which went to #4 and was a million seller.

****
cornellcrawford- Holy Jesus this is incredible. The kazoo-saxophones are a riot. SING LADIES!

****
saku38 - awesome!

****
TallRingo -This is good....the Howlin' Wolf version is definitive.

****

****
seeksmedia- These most talented gals, were my absolute favorite "girl group" of the 70's ... (actually i don't thnk the 70's was an era for 'girl group's ?? -- but these are some of my FAVORITE performers of that era. if I want my adrenalin to pump, the Pointer Sisters will do it EVERY time! Thank you much.

****
divalish - SAAAANNNNGGGG Ruth!!! You ain't sangin' june. whoo!!! go girls!!!

****
amjPeace - Those Kazoo Saxophones are so cool,

dbd1353- call me old-fashioned, as I know there are alot of female singers out today that are really popular and such, but for my money, these ladies can't be touched in terms of voices, stage presence, style, and sexiness..I saw them a number of times here in the Bay Area and they always brought the house down..Talented like nobody's business, and ... fine to look at too. A deadly combination..

****
Realflection- having fun

****
philburrell -dang,,,and this is just a rehersal......

****
LittleMissSinger1000 - that is so cool! Great job!

****
shawlenemross- I cannot believe you have this and I love you so much for posting it! I fell in love as a little girl in '73 with my Mom's album (this one). Thank you thank you! i wish I could pay you for the joy of seeing these!

****
porterhouse1974- No one could touch them singing wise or performing wise..

****
tisha812- I love them...especially when it was the FOUR of them!!! These sisters can sing!!! And not just 1 or 2 of them...ALL of them!!! RIP June.
