Janis Joplin at Monterey Pop -Ball & Chain

Posted by JWaynesTube

"Janis nearly missed her chance to make this historic performance in 1967. A Big Mama Thornton cover that only someone with a voice like Janis' could have done justice. Even with the crap quality of this clip, the power and uniqueness of her vocals come through loud and clear. An angel taken in her prime."

coldIam (1 year ago) If you have a feeling for music of this gandra, then realize this rendition by JJ is near the top. Perhaps Big Mama T, herself did it better, the again she wrote the song.

yairiluvr (8 months ago Watched her perform this in the mid 60's at Avalon Ballroom S.F., close up and personal standing at the stage right in front of her, simply amazing the amount of effort and feeling she put into the song.

ValerieBarlow (8 months ago) In case you kiddies don't know, at 3:26 that is Mama Cass [from the Mamas and the Papas], in awe, at Janis.
AwsomeUsername1 (5 months ago) In another clip or maybe it's this one you can see her mouthing some words, Apparently she was saying "Wow.... Thats heavy"

moondough (5 months ago) Love Janis, and she's on fire here. Her set at Woodstock, summer of '69, was good, but you can tell she aged a lot in those two years. Here, in the spring of '67, her powers were undiminished.

AwsomeUsername1 (3 months ago) I read this great biography about her and the author pointed out that shortly after her death her songs were pulled from the radio, while hendrix and morrison were still played after their deaths. Janis's impact though is seen in other musicians who "janis" without even knowing their "janising" including bands like lead zeplin.

TheBMovieQueen (3 months ago) She was and is such an important figure in music. A one of a kind personality with a voice of such power, intensity. There has never, will never be another like her. My favorite female singer.. hands down!

flyontheguy (2 weeks ago) Show Hide +1   Marked as spam Reply | Spam What a magical magical moment. She just came out and took over that song, and at the same time, she took over the audience too! There was and is no one better, she's another super nova from the 60's that passed us by way too fast. Wow.
