****
1950jimbei (2 years ago) I agree. This is a super session in its truest sense. Just out-of-the-world!!!
****
demented20 (2 years ago) So much talent on that stage it should be against the law. Including my favorite guitarist of all time T-bone Walker.
****
SoulTooSoul (2 years ago) All of the musicians on that stage had achieved blues stardom in their own right. Helen Humes was a jazz singer as well as a blues vocalist. This video is one of those rare musical gems. T-Bone Walker was one of those sophisticated blues artist. He also straddled the line of blues and jazz.
****
acotw67(1 years ago) SoulTooSoul: Very well said. In the version of "Stormy Monay" i have, T-Bone sings more like Nat King Cole,Sinatra,or Billy Eckstein. Could it be because he left Louisiana for Los Angeles instead of Chicago?BTW,clever screen name-I love that 2x set of Aretha Franklin's early jazz recordings.
****
SoulTooSoul (1 year ago) Thank you for the kind words. I need to make a slight correction. T-Bone Walker was raised in Texas and migrated to the west coast (L.A.) I checked wikipieda to make sure. You are right, he was cut from the balladeers of his day.
acotw67, (1 year ago) you have good taste in music.
****
Immaculate416 Wikipedia is not the be all and end all of information - in fact, its often incorrect. However, in this case, your correct.

****
iceman273(1 year ago) Looks like American Folk Blues Fest. Fake decors and all. And of course the best blues ever played.
****
bluesboybren (1 year ago) I don't reckon a blues line-up could really get any better than this!
Those old 60's American Folk Blues Festival vids are probably the best recorded blues around - check 'em out!
****
woodjoewood (1 year ago) i got this on dvd. slims playing is so tasty. i love all of them.
****
einsteinian (1 year ago) Ok I watched it about 15-20 times and I got most of t-bones stuff down from this song anyways. …its technical and smooth at the same time. I think what makes t-bone so original was his ability to play the wrong chord purposefully and slip into the right one. I dont think Ive ever hear another guitarist play a chord sharp or flat just before slamming the spot on chord. Then he blast right into double speed bubbly jazz licks like its nothing. One hell of a musician.
****
einsteinian (1 year ago) Furthermore I praise youtube for allowing me to see all the greats from Robert Johnson to Hendrix to Metallica. Its all connected and I get to pick and choose what I want to learn. Its like asking the greats to teach me, thanks to the tube Ive had lessons from clapton, hendrix, stevie ray vaughn, t-bone walker, robert johnson, blind lemon jefferson, blind willy johnson, doc watson, big bill broonzy, jimmy page, lennon, bb and albert king, buddy guy, muddy waters, ry cooder, son house, lightnin'
****
cliffworks4321 (1 year ago) fyi they are not called or considered 'wrong chords;' but are referrd to as leading or passing chords, a technique used by musicians to create and resolve dissonance.
****
joeat963 (1 year ago) Hey Milespaul,

****
evets530 (1 year ago) My God! I just bumped into this looking for Willie Dixon tunes to cover. Aside from the fact that all these GIANTS are on stage together, the fact that the audience is so luke warm in their applause when she introduces them is just shocking! They should be bowing...they're in the presence of greatness!
****
evrenmaner (1 year ago) And Gods Decided to play together...
green62bullet (1 year ago) That was just magical.Great contrasts of country blues, jazz and urban blues all in the one song.FANTASTIC.

****
atrixwolfe68 (1 year ago) An amazing piece of music history from an era that seemed lost in time...a lot of great blues stuff is coming up recently...Magic Sam and other unsung heroes who only got filmed once or twice...rare footage of the old country blues guys...these are cultural gems not just for the US but the entire world and display the power of music in the face of adversity.
****
TzOsKou (1 year ago) m8 I dont know about ya! but this is definetly the best blueband for me... thx for the video! keep blue
****
Catzmaw (1 year ago) In 1984 I was living in West Africa and had the enormous pleasure of seeing Memphis Slim perform at the U.S. Embassy in Cotonou, Benin. He came through with just a piano player and sang many of the great old blues songs. The crowd consisted of the few Americans in country at that time and some European and Beninese guests, maybe 50 people. Fabulous! It was a great evening. Wish we'd been able to record it.
****
atrixwolfe68 (1 year ago) also...make sure and checkout Sister Rosetta Tharpe- she sings blues/gospel tunes on the level of Aretha Franklin and then proceeds to rip badass blues guitar on a white Gibson SG...I can't believe I hadn't heard of her until she came up on you tube...aw
****
woyzjek (1 year ago) i'm blown away. great post.

ManyGodz (1 year ago) Wow.Talk about an All-Star band!!!
****
Shadowlily21(1 year ago) what year is this from
****
GlenDoll (1 year ago) Well, the audience gets up and does the Twist, a dance craze from the early sixties, so I 'd guess this is about 1962.
****
Odin029 (1 year ago) Its hard to make music like this even if you've been doing it a while. Its the little stuff that you don't even pay attention to... like the set up T-bone gives Sonny Terry when he breaks into the harp solo. How many players would have done that? Just great stuff.
Oh, its from 1962
****
robgoose (1 year ago) That was incredible. Man, I love the blues.
****
boritomc (1 year ago) holy moses, this is so good i can't stop watching ist. unbelievable!
****
Pepilotaaa (1 year ago) this is amazing! real blues! thanks for sharing!!!!!!! 1 year ago
****
kontiki78 (1 year ago) Too bad some young people have no idea what was the roots of their own music, urban music I mean. Coming straight from black america every one of this artists made it to the top when blues was only for peasants, former slaves and junkies.
I guess culture does not pay thats why america prefers to have a short memory and forgets these true artists.
****
julianozain (11 months ago) From the beginning... it was the blues

****
kaliecan (10 months ago) Almost all of these folks played many times in Chicago, for a couple of buck cover you could sit & listen all night. I didn't see them enough times & now they are probably all gone.....more's the pity! Go and see the ones that remain NOW while you can...B.B. King, Pinetop Perkins, Charlie Musselwhite, Johnny & Edgar Winter, Buddy Miles. There are more, but the list is getting shorter.
****

****
mbsnyderc (4 months ago) As a boy he met and help guide Blind Lemon jefferson around Dallas Texas.probale his frist Influence.
****
demented20 (3 months ago) Blind Lemon Jefferson more than Robert Johnson. T-bone is from the Texas blues tree more than the Delta style.
Of course he was an original on so many things. So sophisticated and his timing and dynamics were so perfect.
