"The city of Ghadames is one of Libya’s most historically important cities as it was used not only as a pivotal trade route, but also because it is home to an abundant fresh water spring that kept the town’s oasis full. Ghadames is one of the best preserved Arab towns in the region and is under UNESCO protection to continue preserving its significant ruins and remains.

With so much emphasis on culture and heritage, it is only fitting that the city plays host to an annual festival celebrating its status from the past and its ongoing commitment to preserving its long-standing traditions. The Ghadames Festival is held in mid-October each year and is a vibrant and effervescent affair where the local townsfolk meet to eat, drink, sing, and dance.
