Hsmcor A Lot of people didn't even know that the song exist until Shakira used the chorus of it.
She only used the chorus so it's not completely a cover!!
Usually when people react like this means that the song is going to be huge and if u don't believe rewind back to 06 when Hips don't Lie came ou!

katalina125 Well well Shakira, K'naan wrote and sings the song: waving flags. It has been shosen to be the anthem for the world cup and he wrote it a couple of years ago.
K'naan is originally from Africa, he is from Mogadishu and has also sings a different version of it with David Bisbal. He is also using the song to raise awarness for Haiti, he is a really nice guy. Shakira had her turn in the previous wold Cup with her song 'hips don't lie bamboo, now is K'naan's turn , don't take his turn Shakira.

VeronicaJanet Nothing to see, the song "Waving Flag" of David Bisbal K'naan is much better because it is a Letra Original and Universal.
This theme of Shakira is a copy of a song that I've heard since I was a child. What a lack of originality!

ctadcor shakira copied the song of a Cameroonian group named " Zangalewa". This group and this particular song was well known in the 90 by almost Cameroonians. Shame on you, Shakira. I only hope that you paid copyright before using this song. You can watch here on youtube the original version by entering the name "Zangalewa" into the search box

iberik88 @worldcomingtoanend I respect your opinion but, 1st Shakira is from Colombia. This song (sanwalega) was and still is very popular in the colombian caribbean coast, she composed this version and it was picked as the official song for the world cup. I don't know how 'democratic' the selection of song was, but to me is a very good version of a african song, and Africa is mentioned in the song, while other world cup official songs don't really mention the host country (or countries).

worldcomingtoanend after listening to this i am more than certain that our own DJs like sbu, mzekezeke, arthur, cleo would hv come up with something better...still cant come to terms with the fact that all singers in africa were by-passed and somebody from the states was chosen to compose an anthen for the world cup in africa. of course i hv nothing against shakira but against those who think african singers are not able to.....

camilowish The original song was very popular in the 80's in Barranquilla, Colombia, Shakira's home city, and mine too, maybe that's why she chose it... I remember I used to listen to it many and many times... I have it now on mp3, so many good memories...
