gmkell59 - @beamuhoh The Dozens is what i always heard it as, In Bakersfield CA in the late 50's early 60's that is waht it was called, Gald to see that some one remembers that terminology. Cheers! [Posted in 2010]

CBR797- @gmkell59 Well it comes from a much longer history dating back to the late 1800's, the earliest documented reference to the dozens being that of a Texas song from 1891. The formula for the dozens, primarily the style and kind of humor, date back even before that. the book Black Culture and Black Consciousness has a great section on it if you're interested to know more about it. 57Will -Yep, rap has been around a long long time, and it didn't start with "King Tim III", as this 1959 tune demonstrates. Bo and maraccas player Jerome Green were fooling around in the studio when this was recorded. (Willie Dixon adds a comment of his own near the end). This turned out to be Bo's biggest hit on the charts, hitting #20 on Billboard's pop charts.

Building529-The other voice on this is Jerome Green, his maraca player. Classic tune.
