Video Summary:
The great Alberta Hunter, who had a comeback at age 83, singing "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out," written originally by Jimmie Cox for Bessie Smith. Alberta had written one of Bessie's great blues songs, "Downhearted Blues." From the out-of-print VHS video "Alberta Hunter: Jazz at the Smithsonian."

joycecrawford- I had read about her when I lived in NY and a friend took me out on a date and we saw and spoke to Ms Hunter in the village in the seventies --She was gracious and it was so nice

She would talk to the audiences like they were her children.
