Video Summary:
"Fred Parris, leader vocal of the group wrote this song in 1955 at the basement of a local church"

Here's a viewer response to this comment from karinaport:

"Dear Azitis:
Thanks for this treasure!! However, history goes that Fred Parris wrote the song while on guard duty in the Army at 3: 00 a.m. But the song was really recorded in the basement of a New Haven church. Source: Norm Nite`s Rock On book.
Carlos ``Chubby`` Portugues
Puerto Rico "

-snip-
Note that there are only four members of the group in this performance. There's several comments about that in this video's viewer comment thread. One person wrote that one of the members was sick, or for another reason didn't make that particular performance. The group's wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Five_Satins includes the names of the five members who originally recorded this now classic song.

marcus1411- Thank you for posting aiztis! You do rock for sharing this awesome movie footage!!!

****
britishagenda- Why are they called the Five Satins when there are only four of them.

****
benjaminBarr- You right, I see only 4 satins. couldnt they count?

****
pinkbubbles17- the also counted fred

****
jamesbraid - The problem was that there were several make-ups of the Satins...whoever Parris could get to record...when this was recorded, there were five.

****
jwputter- As Norman Nite would often say when he played this..."The only thing wrong with this song is it's not long enough!"

****
KarenBH- benjaminBarr and britishagenda - Maybe one of the Satins was not available that day, who knows? BUT it is all about the music isn't it?---and this is WONDERFUL!

****

****
seldenkid- Is there a greater love song ever done ? I love it

****
GusGossert- Fred Paris wrote this while on guard duty in the Army. This and Earth Angel by the Penguins were the two classics from this era.

****
colouredschemes- So much emmotion and passion. A true classic.

****
lasermanb- fantastic

****
cbparts1- Who's better than Fred Paris and the Satins? Nobody! and they sound great even today ! The groups of the Fifties were much better than today's Midget Talents.

****
blakecooper2000- The greatest Rock and Roll song of all time.

****
torytrae1974- Excellent voice. Thanks for the upload, love it.

****
blakecooper2000- I understand that Fred wrote this song when he was a soldier. Bravo, Fred!!! You have created a "classic."

****
skinnyguinea86- Its not on the rolling stones greatest songs of all time for nothing. Great song and what a voice

****
ref1ex- I'll always respect the doo-wap groups back in the day, but overall, I like Boyz II Men's version. Obviously, it was groups like The Satins that made a group like Boyz II Ment possible but that's another subject.

****
gwapingsdos-yeah youre right... boyz II men is a lot better...

****
art724- This is the greatest rock and roll song of all time. Boys II Men? You're joking!!! Rock and Roll died on February 7, 1964 when the Beatles stepped off the plane. There has been no "real" Rock and Roll for over 43 years. Thank God I was able to listen to "real" Rock and Roll growing up in the '50s.

****
luv60smusic- love it!!

****
askmewhy51- In the Still of the Night was voted number # 1 on WCBS FM's top 500 every single year for about 25 years until the station changed format recently!

****
matt091282- A timeless classic!

****
bertisobe- Great Rock And Roll Will Never Die !!!! Time Sure Flies !!!! Seems Just Like Yesterday Danced To This Song At The Sock Hop At Nogales High School La Puente Ca. !!!!

****
yolandavv-The best memories ever.

****
illestindagme- this is a lip synching. i compared it with the record edited version, exactly the same. HOWEVER, one of the greatest greatest songs ever written.

****
BSacchetti13- well duh its supposed to be the same

****
prede89- doing that is ok, as long as it is a good song, and they really sang it the first time. This song is amazing so...its "ok" hehe

****
primitiveman3- of course in movies they lip sync its jus for the movie though go through movies like the girl cant help it or any elvis movie they are all the same as the record

****
coyotesong- it just doesn't get any better than this!!!!!! Wow!!

****
caliballin44- Classic. Simply classic. songs aren't written like this anymore.

itsmeishere- how I love the sound of the fifties....I close my eyes.... and I can imagine my "younger" parents dancing and they still dance now together... the same ;-)

****
rope7a7dope7-nice post itsmeishere. nice to see that the younger folks appreciate this great sound, too. thats a song I sing myself at karaioke. I was a streetcorner doowopper in the early 60's. Your right! this music kept your parents and my generation very "Young"

****
itsmeishere- you`re welcome...and I hope this music will you and my parents and this generation keeping on "young" and health for a long long time ;-)

****
butterflybeauty7- Love it...the essence of the romantic songs of an era gone by and treasured by many....great lyrics and song! Thanks azitis for posting

****
fwad23- the gold standard of doowop songs

****
music1mania- what a romantic song--great singers!!!

****
blackprix- I get goosebumps listening to this ... these groups were trailblazers. Thank you!

****
NarutoxUzumaki- The satins are awesome i love oldies

****
Creative62- A true classic. I remember this. It brings back awesome memories. Thanks for posting.

****
summerfield1941- Never to be forgotten, a classic for all time, thanks
for the memories.

****
imaniroze- Oh, my ,thank you so very much for posting this..what a group a beautiful song different time, some of today's singers could learn a few lessons here....An oldie but oh what a goodie!

****
mjrchapin- Perfect song, perfectly executed. No one else could touch it.

****
rope7a7dope7- For the trivia buffs who may not be aware, Freddy got the inspiration for this song as he walked a lonely guard post at Fort Dix N. J. in the wee hours of the morning on a moonlit night.

****
vintagemike - i am 18 and i love the music from the 50s and 60s they dont even make music anymore that rap garbage isnt music it is noise they should make good music again and stop making garbage

****
lyricallyundefined- Not all rap is garbage. Their is good rap music out there just not in the radio. Check out:

* Common- "G.O.D" (gaining one's definition)
* Common ft. Lauren Hill- "Retrospect for Life",
* Royce da 5'9 ft. Amerie- "Life"
* Nas- "Fetus"
* Nas- "Dance"

**Once you hear those songs get back to me. Again there is good rap/hip-hop music, just not in the radio.

****
anticlimatic21-That lyricallyundefined person has a point; that not all rap is garbage. But rather than assume that you're going to like the same kind of rap music I do, consider this instead. What's so great about this song is the melody, lyrics, and hauntingly nostalgic atmosphere. The atmosphere comes only with time, but beautiful slow melodies and lyrics can be found commonly in the faction of rap known as R&B if you look around a lot. Just always remember to keep an open mind.

****
regolio- wonderful song wonderful time takes me back, doo wop was king but now as the gunslinger sez the worlds moved on.

****
RedMetalTread - thank you sooooooo so so so much for posting this video!! a lot i've been looking for it for so so long! thanks! =D

****
jasontreks - Just might be the greatest Doo-Wop song of all time... up there with Earth Angel, I Only Have Eyes For You and almost anything by the Platters. "To the Aisle" was another great song by the 5 Satins... thanks 4 posting this wonderful video. The music lives on...

****
gloriouskodachrome- awesome, wonderfull song, amazing footage, thanks for posting.

****
madvids44- So clean and pure...Ah! Hitting notes, sticking to them, such vocal quality...not like the "music" of my generation (using the term music lighty here) all over the place as far as tone, no vocal "focusing" or resonance. God, music like this makes me wish I was born in the '60s! yay for Baby Boomers! :)

****
zaranine- wonderful!!! im always amazed by oldies! cause old is gold!

****
13lovly- I love this song. But why is the group called the 5 satins if there are only 4 people?

****
manfairy- good point

****
TRAINIAC19-The Five Keys had six in their group. Go figure. Later, in the 80's there were three. Originally the Five Satins were the Scarlets on Red Robin. Check out "Dear One".

****
whataboutbud- this is one of my favorite songs of all time, along with The Flamingos-I only have eyes for you.

****
bs032734- one of the greatest songs ever

****
thedesertdude- This is mean, but that audience reminds of the saying, "pearls for swine." The audience may have been good people, but they certainly didn't seem to appreciate the genius performing for them.

Thanks for posting this video.

****
reeyees1-I think I first heard this song on the Boyz II Men legacy CD. This original is so much better. It's so beautiful I'm seriously close to tears listening to it.

****
usageeko- this and the flamingos are awesome
