O'neil Twins

This clip is from the 1980 classic Gospel documentary "Say Amen Somebody". Here's a viewer comment about this movie:

MethodistPreacher-You may have to order the Video/DVD...but anyone who is interested in or touched by the Genre of Gospel Music needs to purchase 'Say Amen Somebody' . It will touch you deeply, because the founders of Gospel Music tell their stories...they are all deceased now, so this Video/DVD is more valuable because this is probably the last time these 3 giants were seen together prior to their death.

This clip is from a YouTube video featuring Willie Mae Ford Smith. Ms. Willie Mae Ford Smith is one of three principal Gospel greats featured in this documentary. The other two were Thomas Dorsey and Roberta Martin. Other notable Gospel singers besides the O'Neil Twins who are featured in that documentary are the Barret Sisters, and Zella Jackson Price.

JESUS DROPPED THE CHARGES

(The O'Neil Twins)

Verse 1:
I was guilty (guilty)
of all the charges (charges),
doomed and disgraced,
but Jesus (Jesus)
with His special love (special love)
saved me by His grace;
He pleaded (pleaded)
and He pleaded (pleaded)
He pleaded my case.

Chorus 1:
Jesus dropped the charges,
Jesus dropped the charges,
and now I'm saved through grace and faith.

Verse 2:
I was guilty (guilty)
for oh so long (so long)
lived in sin too long,
but Jesus (Jesus)
with His special love (special love)
reached out with His arms so strong;
He picked me (picked me up),
turned me around (turned me around)
gave me a brand new song.

Chorus 2:
Jesus dropped the charges,
Jesus dropped the charges,
and to Him I belong.

Verse 3:
If they remember (remember)
and remember (remember)
some of the things I've done,
but Jesus (Jesus)
with His special love (special love)
forgave me from everyone;
He put me (put me)
on the right road (right road)
lifted my heavy load.

Chorus 3:
Jesus dropped the charges,
Jesus dropped the charges,
now I'm free down in my soul.

Bridge:
He dropped the charges,
Jesus dropped the charges,
(although I was wrong).

He dropped the charges,
Jesus dropped the charges,
(showed me right from wrong).

He dropped the charges,
Jesus dropped the charges,
(and cast them all away);

at Calvary I heard Him say,
at Calvary I heard Him say,
at Calvary I heard Him say,
“case dismissed, case dismissed",
"saved by grace”

Vamp:
He dropped the charges,
Jesus dropped the charges.

****
DJWeezy12 - Str8 Outta St. Liuis, MO The O'Neal twins were really inspiring. I'mma St. Louis native & I remember them being around town back in the day when I was a kid. The Gospel stations would spin their records as if it was The Rev. James Cleveland. Edger O'Neal passed many years ago but people are still appreciative of their gospel accomplishments.

****
andrewpeterbrooke - Just heard this on Radio 3 in the UK. It's superb: great piano playing, great singing, great song and great performance.

****
schs19947- U know they're both deceased now. We lost some great legends

****
sirdaviair- WHen did they die and what from i've never heard of them until today i'm only 28

****
Snowhill3- i dont how dey died, but da one on da piano died january '08, and da otha died in ' 94.

****
hammondorganlova84- Friendly correction.....The first one died in '91. We were at the homegoing. SMILE :) be blessed!

****
Snowhill3- Ok thanx fo da info!!! i 4got where i got '94 from

****
hammondorganlova84-LOL it's ok. I wish they'd honor them more tho, you know what I mean? They always honor Albertina, James, Shirley, Dorothy, Bobby Jones, Mahalia Jackson. But what about the O'Neal Twins, The Davis Sisters, Dorothy Love Coates???? If you honor one, do them all. But I guess it has to be done silently in people's memory. Have a good one.

****
smashher- @hammondorganlova84 the honor that God will give them will be millions and millions times more valueable. i do understand how you feel tho lol

****
hammondorganlova84 - @smashher so true

****
lbester3- Love this song....case dismissed, saved by grace!!!!!

****
toukijinmaster - I remember the first time I met a black person from our America that wasn't inspired by our music.. he too thought it was funny..laughable.. I was shocked and disgusted with him. I still couldn't believe that there are so many of us raised here that don't "feel" anything when listening to our sarced music....sad really.

****
mert828-Shoot! I'm white and I'm feeling it! How can you not? I love all kinds of sacred music, from Brahms to Mahalia Jackson. Black gospel music has to be one of my favorite genres, though, because it is so very heartfelt and down to earth. People can really feel it and relate to it. The Church in the US would not be the same without the contributions from our black brothers and sisters in Christ. Anyone who doesn't see that is a blind fool.

****
ATP6165- I jus love this song. The church I go to, we do alot of these older songs. We dnt try and do all this new gospel. We do some of it, but we are known for singing some of the old classics and this here is one. Loving this song.

****
alphashed- I am not one to deny our wonderful young gospel singers their due. But OH How I love this ol' skool music. The O'Neal Twins are wonderful to listen to. Thank you!

****
gonzo5623- Lord, this song is a classic. I remember my grandmother playing this record when I was in elementary school. It's an awesome selection. I praise God that "He dropped the charges!"

****
Boogiered1- First heard this song over 18 years ago and it still impact the soul. Thanks for posting this video. I have made it one of my Favorites. God Bless You and keep on blessing us with soul stirring song like this one.

****
kanev1- wow this song is from my childhood mom's always listened to it ....

****
OutsideNila-Love this so much. The O'Neal Twins were wonderful. The joy is visible on everyone's face.

****
gettalong123- Classic! I love it! Makes me smile every time!

****
haughton1998- this is so funky.

****
millschapman - I've requested in a written document with my will that this song be sung at my funeral (on an mp3 player in the background with lyric printouts for everyone). But hopefully that service will be decades from now! lol.
