amoreart10 - Dear Ella,

you are the greatest in all aspects of art and music...ohmy...

i absolutely have no words to explain how amazingly talented you are....

****
Robinwhiteart - I sure wish I had that kind of vocal flexibility. She was amazing. Such an inspiration for one of the high forms of singing. Singing along with her is such a wonderful way to practice.

****
franckyykcnarf - The first lady of jazz!!!

****
EJ3558 - I always thought it was a myth that a singer could say no words at all and still give an outstanding performance! She exceeded my expectations beyond anything I could imagine.

****
tienwong - The talent, the voice, the STYLE, she perfected scatting. Wow! There will never be another Ella. Thanks for sharing.

****
tortillademaiz - Ella is the best! Her improvisations are breathtaking.

****
tisha812- For any singer who ever wanted to, dreamed about, tried to, or hoped to scat...you need to study this woman with fierceness. Need I say...WOW!!!

****
BlankenStatement - Whats so beautiful about Ella is that its so easy for her, she just flowed so well and had such finesse and made something such as scatting seem so fierce yet so easy and playful. Amazing to say the least.

****
Stressed2Capacity- 5 stars simply isn't enough but I rated 5 anyway! THIS is excellent footage of THE QUEEN OF SCAT! Thanks for sharing!

****
LadyTai7 - This is what you cal sanginggggggg!!!

****
4Realian - wOW, few ppl today have this level of talent and i don't think ppl realize how hard this truly is and she does it so effortlessly!!!!

****
Bflatblues55- Ella was a true force. Her level of talent almost scares me a bit.

Great video .. thanks so much for putting this up!

****
katya10 - Speechless

****
jaybou263- Ella in all her greatness!

****
transformedbyjah- marvelous!!! that made me so happy! Thank you Ella! I live!

****
saltmunch - The reason this looks so easy is because she is amazing, it really isn't that easy to do. Wow, she is so awesome. I love her voice and talent. Too bad there aren't people who do that anymore.

****
kimmayluv - Hands down, Ella was/is the best vocalist ever.

****
flokopuffs - doubt any singer in this generation can do this. shes brilliant.

****
guitarded99 - Ella was never panned by critics except for some that said she had such a happy quality to her voice that songs like Summertime and Black Coffee weren't convincing when she performed them. Whatever. Who cares what they say. Ella was the best singer ever.

****
viperBSG - Who cares what "THEY" say anyways."THERE" mostly not musicians in the first place.Just Sing it Miss Ella! Just sing it!!

****
caitijono -No one scats like Ella!

Thanks for inspiring so many musicians to follow in your footsteps you lovely lady, you!

****
Pinkspade123- although there are no words it still has so much meaning

****
CassFletch - yeah its incredible, how ella can communicate without text...and evoke more emotion than most singing the words to this song. i understand this better. shes quick-witted too. genuine artist an entertainer.

****
JordyynForLife- Ella Fitzgerald is my idol!

she was so incredible, there is seriously no one that comes close to her with scats!

****
lvblazelaw- I'm convinced it is a lack of this type of elegance, grace, and sheer genious that has made this world what it currently is. Ella, there is, was, and never will be another.

****
jamesinrichmond - The natural genius of this extraordinary woman and her legendary dedication to her craft is surpassed only by the confidence it takes to stand in front of an educated musical audience and have the courage to do this. Singing at its very best, the human voice as complete orchestra. The untouchable Ella Fitzgerald. Peace

****
Dougles153 - unbeliavable video material"!! im so thankful that this thing even exists- and no matter where you got that from: thank you !! (:

lovely greetings

chris

****
RosesLavender - Oh, Miss Ella could sing, and she certainly brought the house down in this clip! Half of these singers today of my generation can only DREAM of having HALF of Ms. Fitzgerald's chops! Thanks for posting this clip!

****
Galactu5- Ella was so wonderful. She makes you feel great, doesn't she?!

****
adolfoalfonso- one word samba: AWESOME!!!!

****
PhilAroundhits- I suppose this is humour. Newton Mendonca wrote words on Jobim's music, but Ella's scat is genius at work.

****
WillHerndon - i can see why some people would think that this type of singing is comical, but i much prefer it to lyrical singing. music is melody and rhythm, which this song has. the words have nothing to do with it. sadly most ppl judge the quality of a song based on how well they can "relate" to a song's lyrics on a personal level.

****
Ogaitnas900-Couldnt have said it better myself

****
othmarschoeck - there's no way this isn't supposed to be funny. Ella throws in so many little musical jokes, and you can even hear the audience laughing. just because it's awesome doesn't mean it always has to be serious. as this clearly shows, having a comedic element does not necessarily diminish the artistic value of a performance. i love this too, but i don't feel disrespectful at all laughing in some parts.

****
FatalNoogie - Her voice is more soothing than a cold soda on a hot day, and twice as fizzy! ;-)

****
RL789 - I saw her once on tv doing her horn impression, AWESOME! Somebody needs to post that!

****
odalanizi - It's remarkable how much of themselves these singers use to further their craft. She's out of breathe in the beginning and she gives a remarkable performance nonetheless. Reminds me of Nina Simone. Two brilliant performers.

****
ladymcse2000- The best things about Ella, is the sheer unadulterated fun and joy she had in front of an audience. I saw her in one of her last live performances. I can't describe how wonderful she was, even though she was older and her voice wasn't what it once was, she could still scat and she had people young, old, every one almost up and dancing in the aisles.

****
Peterpunk80- u ve seen her live?im so jealous..she is a legend to me..

****
Loismustdie26 - I'm not used to working at things and no getting them in the end, but I can honestly say that this (and all Jazz really) leaves me completely emotionally flat. I don't like it, but I have to say I hate even more that I don't, can someone help me understand this. I'm not a musically juvenile person, but no matter how hard I try, this just misses me. Can someone please help me understand this?

****
queendamaris- the simplest I can attempt is the vocalist tries to mimic an instrument free stylin' - you sound much like my univeristy roommate, she just couldn't get my infatuation with jazz and gist of SCAT!

****
nogoodmusic - Jazz - is improvised music. Often over the melodies and chord changes of popular tunes of the day. (20's, 30's,40's,50's). If you know the original song, sometimes that helps you appreciate the improvisation.

- Her singing. She is improvising just like a saxophone does. too hard to make up words on the spot... so she makes up syllables.

****
smgkp- The best thing to do would be to try to listen to the original version of One Note Samba (or a version with minimal improvisation). Once the original melody is solidly familiar to you, you can then make sense of how she improvises it melodically and rhythmically. Once the main tune ends she spends her time "quoting" other songs by scatting phrases the audience gets when you see them laughing or clapping. Part of her improv here is that she also uses a much higher tempo for the original song.

****
KarimaDaCrop - feel the greatness through screen and time. awesome ella just grand

****
lalagonegaga- It is almost impossible to believe that such a genius even existed on this planet. Beyond perfection. I'm speechless.

****
gsco82- I thoought that she'd come back to the main melody at the end, but she surprised me. What a great performance by the Queen of scat singing.

****
1bluesjazzkat - Pure originality and art in its truest form

****
PowerfulMindsofWomen- What a pleasure to hear. Thanks for posting!

****
chpiyatas- It's sucha a fun live. I have never seen anybody but her singing like this before. Ella is so unique and the mother of all scatters.

****
uncletony2008 - SICK

****
INTENSEsmile - Are you kidding me? how DARE you! Ella Fitzgerald is and will always be the best scatter in history! Show some respect even if you don't like it and if your not a jazz fan, don't watch these videos and especially don't comment "sick" comments. She is an INCREDIBLE icon for all jazz artist. incredible. look at her other work if your interested but never diss her. She is off limits to diss, ever. Ella, the first lady of song an unbelievable inspiration. Crazy awesome gal!

****
siddpr- lol...relax....i thnk he meant 'awesome, cool' when he said that, isn't that the way ppl use the word nowadays....

****
andimermaid89 - sick is the new slang word for awesome. so chill

****
Oukae - you know that sick is also slang for "good" right?

gotta keep up with the times.

****
sapphire9244 - Love her! Her scatting is ridiculous

****
gingeify- WOW!!!!

i'm 21 and still i love this amazing, real music. My grandparents always have ella, frank, sarah vaughn and the other greats playing in the background, may this music live on forever!

****
vousvoulez00 - amazing. simply amazing. there is no one in the world that can even compare to the woman that was ella. this is real music.

****
Elphie3000- Utterly DIVINE! She has something the singers of today cannot even compare to.

****
womanizer4 - you mean talent perfect pitch amazing scat her phrasing 3 octave vocal range

****
MillerMusicStudiosTV -YAH!!!!! Scat!!! She's the BEST!!!

****
gldmj55- She knew how to WOW an audience!

****
jspartacus- She went so far beyond what mere formal training can provide. She was a legendary innovator who defined how the voice could be used as an instrument to devise complex melodies instantaneously completely off the cuff. There's no doubt that she knew exactly what she was doing: you have to know the rules before you can break them.

****
FastforwardTheRewind - You're right- it doesn't take talent; it takes pure skill. And by the way, if you think Scatting is not difficult, you obviously know nothing about it. Scatting is vocal improvisation with random appellations and syllables or without the use of words. Scatting allows singers to improvise melodies and rhythms to create an instrumental-like solo using their voice- a vocal improvisation. And without a doubt, vocal improvisation is much more difficult than insturmental improvisation.

****
sixaxisps3azn - what means scat signing? in easy english please. thanks.

****
watermelonish - it's singing using not words but syllables, for example bloo-bop-ba-lee-ba

(:

****
MissHam2001- It can be thought of imitating the sound of an instrument. Like when I trumpet or saxophone does triplets or plays really fast; those are words but sounds that give the song some meat

****
claudine5- Amazing!! Nowadays is there anyone who do the scat singing?

****
SpaTamacco- of course they do, but they suck eggs compared to the Lady of Song..:)
