Ronnie THE MAN doing it !
Here's a comment I found on another website from Bokete7, the person who uploaded this video:
"Ronnie Moipolai from Kopong village in the Kweneng district 50 km west of the capitol Gaborone. He is 29 years old and goes around the shebeens selling and playing his songs for 5Pula each (80dollarcents). He learned guitar from his now late father, has 3 brothers that also play guitar (KB is one of them), has also a big sister and plenty of kids in the yard. Nobody has a formal job and his mother sells Chibuku beer and firewood they get from the bush trying to make ends meet."

LimaLima95- Thats what im saying right there! Amazing lovely vibe :)
****
Pukrysa1- Really great!!!!!!!
****
jun19020987- I love it!!
****
JoggynSmyler - Maybe that's the Right way to play the Guitar....everyone else has it backwards
****
BlingDogg01- Great song, and great playing! I really liked that.
****
captbanjo1- As Chuck B. would say, "Go, Ronnie, Go!"
****
BluesRocker52 - This is why we do music...for the love of it!
Awesome playing. Thank you for sharing you skills with us in the USA!
****
ArthurRotfeld- This is great. We love it over here in the US.
****
Bambinobasco - he's just a street performer... plays for quick bucks, see the writing on the guitar that says "PINA 5.00"
it means that he plays a song for 5 bucks
this is probably his first recording... theres another video of him on this channel
****
Johns805- @Bambinobasco More than "just another street performer" I think this is for the most part undiscovered talent....Best Regards!
****
mac21982 - great job
****
Johns805 - Must've started off at age 3! Amazing....I somehow think other pickers will look at this...in awe! First name: Ronnie. Last name: ??? Can I find background somewhere? Recordings??
****
ASPRINALARD - Guitarist extraordinare! Amazing ability that comes just naturally! No struggle whatsoever in the execution of his magic! Impressive!
****
Malcntnt1 - Thank you for sharing that wonderful talent :)
****
blackjackbarnet - How many strings and what tuning is being used.???I MUST know!!!!
****
Aldrenean- He's using 4 strings, the A and high E are missing. It's an open major tuning, meaning that when all the strings are played open you'll get a major chord. As to exactly what chord it is, I'm waaaay too lazy to bother figuring it out by ear right now. :)
****
theimben- But we know you could :)
****
regica08- @Aldrenean
Thank you for this information.. Never heard of that kind of tuning... Awesome playing though
****
ionahoopii-Love it, pure joy!
****
commedykid - absolutely amazing. this is now my favourite video on youtube. fascinating.
****
Lucijabass- this made me sooo happy :)
thank you!
****
ist2k1 - never seen anything like this....love it.
****
Bambinobasco - they learn from the street man...no formal learning... he even plays with 4 strings but plays them 4 strings real good, to most of the guitar players you see in this channel its a way of living, as you can see there is some writing on the Guitar, is says
"PINA 5.00"
it means a he plays you a song for 5 bucks.
****
renthead102- we love you ronnie!!!!
****
marmiteboy99 - Astonishing talent.
****
gomifca- Amazing talent, ive been listening to this everyday
****
GabrielBorbaSlayer- Absolutely beautiful.
****
ThreeElevenage- beautiful and utterly amazing.
****
hoowansum - this is the roots of the delta slide blues and eventually rock n roll. What is happening here is what was happening in rural southern Mississippi in 1930. This should be preserved and carefully not exploited.
****
numofan- @hoowansum : No, this is jazz and blues-influenced music from southern Africa (Botswana, north of South Africa).
****
mutoid1 - absolute magic! ! ! merci beaucoup:)
****
oloratoo- this is classic, some talent u got there.
****
pootbutta- totally cool
just wonderful !!!!
****
allanahsimply -This is too awesome. ^_^

****
parkerjh - Wow, would love to hear more of this!
****
Deerbridge - That's unbelievable !! Listen to those walking bass lines... just fantastic !!
Thanks for sharing ! Martin
****
wdmax- Cool! I like the versatility of the positions and gestures available for this unique style. You can see that tune gets a lot of play from the worn fretboard in particular positions.
****
cinesketch- That's really great!
Makes me think of Duncan Africa - they train Ugandans as luthiers (guitar makers) and sell them over here. Really nice guitars... this guy could use one!
****
musodata - the guy sitting behind looks like he's heard this for the 23rd time this week.
****
animaldan- So what..? I didn't.
****
Semitotal-Dulcimer style!
****
gazing- Gorgeous - and performed with such cool aplomb! I'm so envious of people who can play guitar well!
****
MrsJama- Beautiful Video! Beautiful Music! Beautiful People! And, Beautiful Botswana!
****
dunungbe- sweet. thank you africa for the musical creativity you share with the world!
****
ycicle - This is awesome. I especially love the percussive elements.
****
bongosiauliai - STUNNING! I've just tried to tune to an open G, D and A - definitely amazing! Time for new experiments! :}
****
Fetus4- I love this! It is amazing! Someone so far away form me can still reach my heart.
****
tomasso123- Ronnie is one of the most wonderful and mesmerising artists! Viva Botswana!!
****
loreal60901- Wonderfully talented. First time I ever saw someone make the guitar sound like a banjo.
****
nameofthepen - Because of YouTube, we have the chance to go around the corrupt "big record labels", and to get a chance to see and hear brilliant but obscure talent such as this. I'm just floored!
****
elguapo256 - Wow. This is absolutely amazing. does anyone even know how this guitar is tuned? Beautiful sound. Beautiful melody.
****
guapo2525- @elguapo256 open F tuning like most of Botswana Guitars in this style. However notice that normally one string is not placed nor used on the guitar (the third or more seldom, the second one).
****
neverich - Music at last. Thank-you.
****
SuppScott- See kids? Just because you can play your favorite song on Guitar Hero on ultra hard mode doesn't make you talented. This is pure talent.
****
Thechrismccoy11- These guys from Botswana need exposure.. Reward them for doing what they love
****
3ziabeth- Thank you for posting this, and the other music of Botswana and Zimbabwe!
****
scsandy2002- FANTASTIC! I can't stop watching this since I saw it yesterday....just fantastic..!!!!
****
mayomayomayo - Look at that guitar. It's beat up, the fretboard is worn out from frequent use, it's missing strings and it looks like there's a price written on it. 5 dollars (or whatever currency). And Ronnie totally rocks it. Proof that it's not about how good your equipment is, it's about your love for your music that moves people.
****
Lewis1711- @mayomayomayo 5 Pula, about 0.58 EUR. It's how much he charges for a song.
****
bovrilman - Fantastic! Just goes to show that rules and techniques are there to be broken!!!
****
aurelienmillec- this song should be used on a commercial and give money to someone like Ronnie and not to "artists" we hear today...
****
ich12395 - Respect...you´re very good
****
TrotzDamour - GREAT STYLE !!!
****
orbix1000 - Seems to be the mother of Ronnie...
In this culture the womans arent on the same level like the mens..
So she teached him the stuff... BUT SHES the Master.
Also look at heads ...
****
talalikambo- @orbix1000
You can do a search for Ronnie Moipolai, but I'm quite sure the video is of Ronnie (a man), and in the background is his brother KB who also plays. The headscarf is very unusual for men in Botswana culture, though.
****
219meyer - Ronnie the man all the way from Mmatseta next to Metsimotlhabe and Kopong
****
allenowens2004 - there are masters everywhere
****
Bokete7 - @Dorasaga Pina means "song" and every song costs P5.00 (5pula) which is approx. 90 US$ cents.
****
smedheat - that is a woman
****
liuzhou- @smedheat Definitely not. His name is Ronnie Moipolai and he is a well known street musician in Botswana
****
Fuzigish8- Wow, all your videos are fantastic Bokete7! You are very lucky to have heard these all live.
****
MissNATferfoglia- Such modesty can bring about the greatest joy from within the musician and instrument, which in turn is given to us. I feel humbled by it and joyous. Sending much love and light, and gratitude for making my day..........xxx
****
HoneyRadiance-...I never seen a guitar played this way, from on top the fret rather than around the back and over like most people. I've always wanted to play, but I have missing fingers on my right hand and they've always got in the way...Maybe I could learn from Ronnie.
****
reincarnage256- i like how the guy in the back listening to the song
****
Azizip17- @reincarnage256 From a posted comment below & also from another online site, I learned that the younger man with the hat on shown listening to Ronnie playing is his brother KB. KB (Kabelo). also has videos on YT. Like most others who have watched this video, I'm really lovin the way Ronnie plays the guitar. He's a very talented & skillful musician. I also love the way KB plays & sings. Thanks Bokete7 for posting these videos!

****
Azizip17- Bokete, thanks for sharing this video with the world! I hope that Ronnie Moipolai receives the recognition & financial success he so very much deserves. I confess that I had to look up this information on Botswana (from wikipedia) "The Republic of Botswana is a country in Southern Africa...It is bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, and Zimbabwe to the northeast. It meets Zambia at a single point."
Thanks again!

Azizip17 - Btw, what's the name of this composition?
****
MeinNekro - this vid shows that music brings people together...
